In September of 1978, Mr. Elmer Whitaker acquired three bank charters in the state of Kentucky: Peoples Bank & Trust in Berea, First National Bank of Carlisle, and Powell County Bank in Stanton and Clay City. In 1873, Horizon Bank was founded in Michigan City, Indiana - a small settlement on a sand hill at the southeastern tip of Lake Michigan.
